The Canadian Parliament elected Honourable Andrew Scheer, M.P. as the new Speaker of the House of Commons following the General Election in May 2011 and the convening of the 41^st Session of the Parliament on 2^nd June 2011.

The High Commissioner Mrs. Chitranganee Wagiswara called on the Speaker on August 18, 2011 accompanied by Mr. Lional Premasiri, Deputy High Commissioner.  The discussion of the meeting centered on Canada – Sri Lanka bilateral relations and on strengthening links between the Parliamentary Friendship Groups.
