Chitranganee Wagiswara

High Commissioner for the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka

High Commissioner Chitranganee Wagiswara joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1981.  Her first posting was in Rome, Italy from 1984 – 1988.  After returning to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Colombo she worked as Assistant Director, South Asia & SAARC Division. In 1991, she was posted to Ottawa, Canada as First Secretary/Counsellor. In 1994, she returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was appointed Director, West in the Ministry until 1996.

In 1996, she took up duties in the Sri Lanka High Commission in London as Minister and one year later, from 1997 – 1999 she held the post of Deputy High Commissioner in London.

In December 1999, she was appointed High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Singapore and served in that capacity until January 2003.  From 2003 – 2005, she was appointed Director General, Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and subsequently as Director General, South Asia & SAARC.

In May 2005, she was appointed Ambassador to the Republic of France and Permanent Delegate to the UNESCO and served in that capacity until September 2008.  On returning to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she was appointed to the post of Additional Secretary (Political Affairs) in which capacity she worked upto December 2009.

Since January 2010, she is functioning as the High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Canada.

Ms. Wagiswara read for a degree in Bachelor of Commerce.  She is married to Mr. Duleep Sarath Wagiswara.
